A TVS (Transvaginal Ultrasound) is a pelvic ultrasound performed by inserting a small probe (transducer) into the vagina to obtain detailed images of the female reproductive organs the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes (when visible), cervix, and surrounding structures.
It is one of the most accurate imaging methods for evaluating gynecologic and early pregnancy conditions.
What it checks:
Uterus - fibroids, adenomyosis, size, shape
Endometrium (uterine lining) - thickness, polyps, abnormalities
Ovaries - follicles, cysts, PCOS, ovarian reserve
Early pregnancy - gestational sac, heartbeat, ectopic pregnancy
Pelvic fluid, infections, or masses
Why it’s done:
Irregular or heavy periods
Infertility or ovulation monitoring
Early pregnancy confirmation or bleeding
Pelvic pain, PCOD, fibroids, endometriosis
Suspected ectopic pregnancy or miscarriage
To monitor follicular growth during fertility treatment
