Ultrasound - Sonomammogram

Ultrasound - Sonomammogram (also called Breast Ultrasound) is a non-invasive imaging test used to evaluate the breast tissues using high-frequency sound waves. It is commonly used as an adjunct to mammography, especially in women with dense breast tissue.

  • Infections or abscesses

  • Suspicious or cancerous lesions

  • Nipple discharge evaluation

  • Lymph nodes in the underarm (axilla)

  • Breast implants (ruptures, leaks)

Why it’s done:

  • Breast pain, lump, or thickening

  • Abnormal mammogram findings

  • For women under 40 (dense breast tissue)

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding (safe and radiation-free)

  • Routine screening in high-risk women

  • To guide biopsies (FNAC/core biopsy)
