Ultrasound - Scrotum

Ultrasound - Scrotum (also known as Scrotal or Testicular Ultrasound) is a non-invasive, high-resolution imaging test used to evaluate the testes, epididymis, and scrotal contents. It is the primary modality for assessing scrotal symptoms and abnormalities.

What it checks:

  • Testicular swelling or pain

  • Hydrocele - fluid around the testis

  • Varicocele - enlarged veins (similar to varicose veins)

  • Epididymitis / Orchitis - infection or inflammation

  • Testicular torsion - twisting of testis (emergency)

  • Cysts, tumors, or lumps

  • Undescended testis in children

Why it’s done:

  • Scrotal pain, swelling, or sudden discomfort

  • Lump or heaviness in testicle

  • Infertility evaluation (varicocele commonly affects fertility)

  • Trauma or injury to scrotum

  • Suspected infection, abscess, or torsion

  • Monitoring after surgery or treatment
