neck ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging technique that uses sound waves to visualize structures in the neck. It is commonly used to assess thyroid, lymph nodes, salivary glands, and soft tissues.

 

What it checks:

  • Thyroid gland - size, nodules, cysts, thyroiditis

  • Lymph nodes - swelling, infection, or suspected cancer spread

  • Salivary glands (parotid & submandibular) - stones, infections, tumors

  • Soft tissue lumps - cysts, abscess, lipoma, or other masses

  • Post-thyroid surgery follow-up

 

Why it’s done:

  • Neck swelling or lump

  • Thyroid enlargement (goiter) or suspected thyroid disorder

  • Lymph node enlargement or infection

  • Difficulty swallowing, pain, or voice change

  • Follow-up for thyroid surgery, nodules, or cancer
