Ultrasound - KUB With Post Void Residue

Ultrasound KUB with Post Void Residue (PVR) is a diagnostic ultrasound scan of the Kidneys, Ureters, and Bladder (KUB), followed by measurement of residual urine in the bladder after the patient voids (urinates).

 

What it checks:

  • Kidneys - stones, swelling (hydronephrosis), cysts, infections

  • Ureters - dilation or blockage due to stones or obstruction

  • Urinary Bladder - wall thickness, tumors, diverticula

  • Post Void Residue (PVR) - amount of urine left after passing urine, helps assess bladder emptying

 

Why it’s done:

  • Frequent urination or difficulty passing urine

  • Burning sensation or urinary tract infections (UTI)

  • Suspected kidney stones or blockage

  • Enlarged prostate (in males)

  • Incomplete bladder emptying or urinary retention

  • Bedwetting or bladder dysfunction in children and adults
