What it checks:

  • Liver - fatty liver, cysts, cirrhosis

  • Gallbladder - stones, polyps, inflammation

  • Kidneys & ureters - stones, swelling, cysts

  • Pancreas & spleen - size, inflammation, masses

  • Urinary bladder (Pre & Post Void) - wall thickness, residual urine

  • Prostate (in men) - enlargement or obstruction signs

  • Aorta & surrounding organs

Post Void Residue (PVR):

  • Measured after the patient empties the bladder

  • Checks if urine is left behind due to bladder weakness, obstruction, prostate issues, or neurological causes

  • Normal PVR is usually <50 ml

Why it’s done:

  • Abdominal pain, bloating, or liver/kidney problems

  • Frequent urination, difficulty passing urine, or feeling of incomplete emptying

  • Suspected prostate enlargement (BPH)

  • Urinary tract infections, kidney stones

  • Monitoring chronic liver, kidney, gallbladder diseases
