An abdominal ultrasound that checks all major abdominal organs plus measures the urine left in the bladder after urination (PVR). It helps assess both abdominal health and urinary bladder function.
What it checks:
Liver - fatty liver, cysts, cirrhosis
Gallbladder - stones, polyps, inflammation
Kidneys & ureters - stones, swelling, cysts
Pancreas & spleen - size, inflammation, masses
Urinary bladder (Pre & Post Void) - wall thickness, residual urine
Prostate (in men) - enlargement or obstruction signs
Aorta & surrounding organs
Post Void Residue (PVR):
Measured after the patient empties the bladder
Checks if urine is left behind due to bladder weakness, obstruction, prostate issues, or neurological causes
Normal PVR is usually <50 ml
Why it’s done:
Abdominal pain, bloating, or liver/kidney problems
Frequent urination, difficulty passing urine, or feeling of incomplete emptying
Suspected prostate enlargement (BPH)
Urinary tract infections, kidney stones
Monitoring chronic liver, kidney, gallbladder diseases
