An abdominal ultrasound is a non-invasive scan that uses sound waves to visualize the major organs inside the abdomen. It helps detect diseases related to the liver, gallbladder, kidneys, pancreas, spleen, and surrounding structures.
 
What it checks:
Liver - fatty liver, hepatitis, cirrhosis, cysts, tumors
Gallbladder - gallstones, inflammation (cholecystitis), polyps
Kidneys & ureters - stones, swelling (hydronephrosis), cysts, infections
Pancreas - pancreatitis, cysts, tumors
Spleen - enlargement, injury, cysts
Urinary bladder (if included) - wall thickness, residual urine if needed
Aorta & nearby abdominal vessels
 
Why it’s done:
Abdominal pain, bloating, vomiting, or unexplained discomfort
Suspected fatty liver, gallstones, kidney stones
Jaundice or liver disease monitoring
Chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, alcohol-related liver issues
