Doppler - Carotid (Carotid Doppler Ultrasound) is a non-invasive vascular ultrasound test that evaluates the carotid arteries in the neck - the major blood vessels that supply blood to the brain. It uses Doppler technology to assess both structure and blood flow.
What it checks:
Blood flow in the right and left carotid arteries
Plaque or cholesterol deposits (atherosclerosis)
Narrowing or blockage of arteries (carotid stenosis)
Risk of stroke or TIA (mini-stroke)
Abnormal blood flow patterns or artery wall thickening
Post-surgery or stent evaluation (if previously treated)
Why it’s done:
Dizziness, fainting, stroke or mini-stroke symptoms
Sudden weakness or numbness in face/arms/leg
Blurred vision, slurred speech, or imbalance
Persistent high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol
Smoking history or suspected atherosclerosis
Screening in patients with heart disease or stroke risk
